Be Thou My Vision is one of the oldest surviving songs still actively sung in the Western world. While its Irish history is shrouded in a bit of mystery and folklore, it is patently obvious that this song is also one of the most achingly beautiful songs available in modern hymnody.
Though originally written in Irish in the 14th century, first translated into English in 1905, and set to music in 1912, this profoundly Scriptural prayer remains so powerful today.
I speak for all of the Goodly Heritage men when I say we hope this song blesses you while also causing you to lift your eyes from the heartache and hurt we so often feel in the present. I am thankful, despite how dark the day may be, He is our Vision.
“Heart of my heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.”
